    No to phony border bill

Regarding The Day editorial (Tuesday, Feb. 6) “Call speaker’s bluff, approve border deal,” the numbers are telling. From 2016 through 2020, apprehensions of illegals crossing the border were under 500,000 per year. There was a spike in 2018 of 800,000. Enter Joe Biden: 2021: 1,660,000, 2022: 2,210,000, and 2023: 2,050,000, and 2024 is off to a rousing start. The Obama and Trump years were relatively manageable for the country in absorbing illegals. Then Biden, when running, stated there would be "NO deportations for his first 100 days." The welcome mat was out, and it was all downhill from there. We don’t need a phony border bill; we need a big change in presidential policy, because just that, is what caused this crisis in the first place. Biden and his henchman, Alejandro Mayorkas, own it. And it is a real crisis, just ask any mayor or governor of any big city or state, red or blue.
