    Disappointing cycle of cruelty-driven legislature

A group of CT Republican legislators introduced a pair of bills supposedly to protect children, but that are really just part of the same anti-transgender agenda being driven by the national GOP.

In The Day's article by Luke Feeney of the CT Mirror, (Feb. 15) “State Republicans to seek laws regarding trans students, athletes,” mentioning this legislation, it failed to mention two things: first, that there have been 7 anti-trans bills introduced by CT Republicans since 2021; second, that the two bills introduced this week were introduced in CT before. Did you know that two legislators representing Ledyard sponsored one of these so-called “women’s sports” bills back in 2021? Reps. Brian Lanoue and Greg Howard sponsored HB 5795 that year. I was surprised to learn that, and I am disappointed that they are signing on to these hateful bills instead of working on meaningful issues.

Instead of performative acts of cruelty towards the transgender community, Rep. Howard and Rep. Lanoue should reject the national GOP’s culture war and focus on their constituents.
