Designate Mount Decatur an historic site

I am writing to express my strong support for the creation of a historic site on Mount Decatur in Gales Ferry, commemorating its significance during the War of 1812. As our community continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that we preserve and honor the rich history that has shaped our town and nation.

Mount Decatur played a crucial role in the War of1812, serving as a strategic vantage point that contributed to the defense of our nation. Designating it as a historic site would not only recognize its historical significance but also provide an educational opportunity for current and future generations to learn about this pivotal period in our country's history.

Preserving Mount Decatur as a historic site would offer numerous benefits to our community. It would attract tourists, history enthusiasts and school groups, boosting local businesses and contributing to the cultural heritage of Gales Ferry. Additionally, the site could serve as a focal point for community events, educational programs and commemorations, fostering a sense of pride and connection among residents.
