In response to Chris Powell’s fairy tale (The Day, Feb. 20), “US wrecks Ukraine,” everyone interested should read the treaty made in 1994, between Ukraine and Russia and the U.S. to give up their nuclear weapons. In short, the parties signed a guarantee keeping a free Ukraine at the current borders in exchange for moving their nukes back to Russia.

Turns out this was a big mistake with Putin now claiming that he owns Ukraine, in complete violation of the agreement. Nowhere in this document does the language appear that would allow Russia to violate it as the fairy tale Powell wrote. He is using Russian talking points that are infecting the Republican Party based on lies. Just read the document.
