Less of what Chris Powell is dishing out

I enjoy the op-ed buffet provided each morning by The Day, though I could do with fewer servings of whatever Chris Powell is cooking.

His recent column gratuitously slammed Senator Chris Murphy over border issues. Senator Murphy spent the last many months in negotiations over that issue, crafting a bill that gave the opposition most of what they claimed to want. The bill died, as partisans chose instead to use the issue as a wedge in this year’s election campaign.

Mr. Powell claims repairing Connecticut infrastructure leads to inflation. If I had to choose between inflation (which has been coming down) and falling through the bridge on my next trip to Groton, I’m choosing inflation (unless I’m forced to read many more Powell columns).

Finally, Powell claims that the United States is responsible for “provoking” the war in Ukraine! I remember when the GOP used to do the happy dance over the dissolution of the old Soviet Union; now it appears that they wish to reassemble it. The Putin Polka may be the latest Republican dance craze, but given last week’s murder of Alexei Navalny, they might consider playing a new tune.
