Call to be proactive against increased power rates
The facts are clear: PURA, Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) are all in business together when it comes to profitability. These rates for power are already some of the highest in the country with no end in sight. The fact Eversource has over a million customers in Connecticut, and UI has the rest; just do the math and see how many billions of dollars per month each is asking for when it comes to rate increases.
These rate increases destroy the cost to do business in Connecticut along with burdening families who work and live here. The balance sheets for these companies need to show real-time profit and loss statements. I see overall profitability each year from Eversource stock and when executive compensation is constantly rising, it's on the backs of ratepayers. This corporate giant has 4.4 million customers in New England, so what are the other state rate increases looking like? I believe we are sharing the biggest burden of the increase.
Please write your state legislators and put some accountability into fixed rate increase so we all can budget for the cost. These increases impact everyone, especially our local governments in schools and services provided in those budgets. Let's be proactive instead of reactive; make our regulators do their job.
