    Organize and make a difference

If you feel your Connecticut vote may not matter because of the Electoral College, then take action to make a difference in another state. There are ways you can influence election results in important “swing states” from the comfort of your home.

During the 2020 election, I was recruited into a national letter-writing effort whose aim is to “get out the vote,” and sent letters for President 2020; Midterms 2022; Georgia Run-offs 2022; Virginia, Michigan and Ohio 2023; and New York Special Election February 2024. These Democratic victories made me proud to say, “I did something,” rather than feel powerless.

Our group has worked with VoteForward, SwingLeft and BlueWave Postcard Movement, who will provide instructions, addresses and postcards or letters. You supply the time, a hand-written note, and postage. Groups such as “‘Chop Wood Carry Water” publish newsletters that list urgent actions that are easy to complete.

We are creating a strategic plan for the presidential election of 2024 and encouraging others to join these efforts. Convert your social gatherings into writing clubs from now until November and become a “Guardian of Democracy!” As Margaret Meade observed: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
