    Obstructionism hinders state’s key initiatives

I commend state Sen. Martha Marx for her unwavering support of Connecticut's working people and families. Her dedication, including support for House Bill 5005, which guaranteed paid leave for all workers, is proof of this. However, it is disheartening to witness state Rep. Holly Cheeseman and the Republican Party opposing this common-sense legislation.

Everyone benefits from workers taking time off when they are sick. It’s also frustrating that they obstructed the legislative progress during this session. Their insistence on delaying bills like HB 5005 prevented the consideration of other important legislation, including measures addressing data centers and climate change. This obstructionism hinders the state's ability to address pressing problems and move forward with key initiatives.

We need representatives who prioritize the needs of working individuals and support policies that promote economic security and fairness for all residents of Connecticut. I urge the people of East Lyme and the state of Connecticut to reject Rep. Cheeseman and her Republican colleagues in the fall election so that we can enact meaningful reforms that benefit the entire community.
