Our veterans deserve better
Our veterans deserve better. As a candidate for state representative, I am committed to advocating for policies that address the systemic challenges faced by our veterans.
We must move beyond rhetoric and take meaningful action to ensure that our veterans receive the care and support they need. It's heartening to see state Senator Martha Marx's efforts in helping pass legislation to improve access to support services for Connecticut veterans. However, despite their dedication and sacrifice, issues like veteran suicides and homelessness persist, often overlooked by society. While some politicians talk about their support for veterans, the reality is that many veterans still struggle with homelessness, a problem exacerbated by recent legal actions.
The conservative Supreme Court seems eager to make it easier to jail people whose crime is not being able to get housing. Considering that a disproportionate number of homeless individuals are veterans, it's concerning that military veterans, many of whom are facing mental health issues, could face criminalization for simply being without shelter. On Memorial Day, let's honor our veterans with meaningful support and assistance.
