Avalonia Land Conservancy poor stewards of Bindloss

Avalonia Land Conservancy needs to tend to Bindloss Preserve off of River Road in Mystic. If it weren’t for the neighbors, Bindloss Preserve would look like a nasty swamp. Many of us have had neighbors who don’t take care of their yard. River Road area residents have such a neighbor, the Avalonia Land Consevancy.

For most years, area residents have to request Avalonia to "clean up their site," with very little response. The conservancy only agrees to minor spring cleanups. This is a scenic road. Is this really the best they can do? They posted a sign indicating new habitat plantings to occur and then planted only three or four plants. Really? Local residents do their best by cutting the grass in front of this preserve to give it a slightly better look, but it's time Avalonia took action to improve this site.

What's even more surprising is the director of "stewardship" for Avalonia, which promises active management of the land to preserve and improve, lives directly across from the site. Have pride, it's your neighborhood. Mystic has many beautiful sites. This is another opportunity for Avalonia Land Conservancy to follow its mandate; instead, they seem to do nothing — a disappointment.
