Fire station out of service causes problems

On Friday June 14, we had to call 911. A friend had fainted, and we were having trouble reviving him. We called 911 immediately, and after 10 minutes we called again to see where they were. The dispatcher told us that they were pulling into the driveway; no they were not. We were outside waiting for them. Our friend needed help! We are located no more than 1 and 1/2 miles between Montville Fire Station and Mohegan Fire Station. The responding ambulance was from Chesterfield, which is over nine miles away! That is unacceptable!

It is our understanding that the Montville Fire Station had to close due to radon gas. Why was the Montville Fire Station still not reopened? Has anything been done to repair the radon problem? If so, what? The money is in the budget for the Montville station. What is this money being used for? How can four men respond to a 42-square-mile town efficiently? Why aren’t we using all available resources?

This problem should have been corrected by now; it has been months. Fortunately our friend is fine, but this could have turned out very differently.
