Help us refresh The Day's website

What do you like about www.theday.com? How could we improve your surfing experience?

The Day Publisher and President Timothy Dwyer has asked a committee of staff to refresh and update our website, and we need your help.

We promise you we are always listening to your recommendations about specific content. But for this project, we'd like to hear specifically about how you access and enjoy our digital content.

We want to make sure readers find what they're seeking, whether they come directly to the homepage or arrive through a browser search or social media post. While some of you access the site on your desktop computer, most are using a phone, tablet or laptop.

Appearance matters. Does the site look nice and adequately convey The Day's brand and mission? Is the content too crowded? How much white space should we incorporate?

What do you want to see along the top of the home page? Right now we have the latest news in the lefthand column, the top stories and photos in the middle and the most read stories on the right.

Below that are sections we call "buckets" for specific topics, such as local news, arts and entertainment, business stories and real estate.

How do you like the search feature? What are you usually looking for when you visit, and are you able to find it? How can we rearrange the content so it's easier to find what you're looking for? Are our ads attractive and well placed?

Do you like the rotating information boxes, or "carousels," we use to feature special content?

Are you able to find photo galleries, videos and podcasts easily? Do you have to scroll too far to find our opinion section? How easily can you locate information about your subscription, access the daily puzzles or sign up for one of our newsletters?

As you can see, there's much to consider. Parts of the refresh project are obvious. We know we need to update and reorganize the "About The Day" pages and the frequently asked questions section. We're on it.

We'd love to hear specific recommendations for the site based on your reading habits; and while you're at it, tell us if there are features we shouldn't change at all.

We're attaching a survey to this column online, and as always welcome your thoughts via the comment section, email or phone call.
