UPDATED: Roads reopen, power still out to some Ledyard, Groton homes

Downed wires Tuesday evening knocked out power to some Connecticut Light & Power customers in Groton and Ledyard.

Emergency officials in Groton reported at 8 p.m. that sections of roadways were closed because of the wires down in the area of Cow Hill Road at Lamphere Road and Pumpkin Hill Road in the area of Gold Star Highway and Deerfield Ridge Drive.

    The roads have since reopened.

CL&P spokesman Frank Poirot said line crews were sent out to repair the problem, but he did not give an estimate on how long before power was restored.

At 8 p.m., there were 577 CL&P customers in Ledyard and 1,568 in Groton without power. By 9:30 p.m., there was no change in Ledyard and 847 homes in Groton without power.
