FLU SYMPTOMS SIDELINE SEVEN FROM BARQUE EAGLE, FOR NOW

New London - Seven members of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's freshman class experienced flu-like symptoms and were not allowed to meet the academy's training barque Eagle in Maine.

The academy has been dealing with an outbreak of swine flu, also called novel H1N1 influenza, since July 9.

The medical staff screened everyone scheduled to go on the summer training cruise. With two more port calls scheduled after Rockland, Maine, there is still a possibility that those who were held back will be able to go aboard Eagle this summer.

There are 45 confirmed cases of H1N1 at the academy- 33 "swabs," the newest students at the school who are currently taking part in a mandatory summer session, eight cadets, three staff members and one Coast Guard Reserve officer candidate, the academy said Tuesday.

    Five tests are still pending.
