    One person killed, another hurt in Route 85 crash

    Waterford and Montville firefighters and Lawrence & Memorial Hospitalparamedics work to extricate one of the victims of a single-car accident onRoute 85 north of Lakes Pond Road in Waterford Monday afternoon. Theaccident occurred before 4 p.m. One victim was transported to L&M while thesecond was flown to the hospital by Life Star helicopter. Route 85 was shutdown for the duration of the accident.

    Waterford - A passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured when the car they were in crashed into a tree and a guardrail along Route 85 Monday afternoon.The two men, whom officials did not identify, were traveling north in the area of Lake Konomoc at about 3:45 p.m. when the car went off the roadway and struck a guardrail and then a tree before crashing into the fence protecting the reservoir.

The road was closed for nearly three hours.
