Griswold shows off middle school addition

Fifth-grade boys work on their ball handling Monday under the tutelage of physical education teacher Chad Barclay in the gym in the new wing of the Griswold Middle School. The opening of the $34 million wing of the middle school marks roughly the midpoint of a $70 million construction project on the middle and elementary buildings. The work is slated to be completed in 2012.

Griswold - More than one year after ground was broken on the middle school, dozens of parents and residents took guided tours Monday through the new addition, which nearly doubled the size of the original school building. Construction began in the summer of 2008, about one year after taxpayers approved spending up to $70 million on the middle school renovations and addition and the demolition and construction of a new elementary school.
