Explosion, increased truck traffic Tuesday at Niantic River Bridge site

Waterford – Police are asking residents to be aware of a planned explosion and increased overnight truck traffic this week as a result of the Niantic River railroad bridge construction project.

Crews will be conducting a concrete pile load test and an underwater concrete pour at the site Tuesday between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. during which an explosion will be heard.

Also, roughly 20 trucks per hour between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday will be traveling between exit 75 on I-95 and the Mago Point construction site along Niantic River Road and Boston Post Road.

Crews will try to limit the noise from truck brakes, but there will be an inevitable increase in overnight noise.

Waterford and East Lyme police will be assigning additional officers to help expedite operations.
