Lyme-Old Lyme school budget passes by a wide margin
Old Lyme — Residents in Lyme and Old Lyme tonight voted overwhelmingly in favor of a $31,010,964 spending plan for the regional school district’s 2012-13 budget.
In all, 499 residents voted in favor of the budget while 142 voted against, according to Superintendent Elizabeth Osga. In Old Lyme, the vote was 355-123 in favor of the budget, while in Lyme, vote tallies were 144 to 19.
“We were pleased to present a very responsible budget, and we were pleased to have it recognized by the voters of Lyme and Old Lyme,” Osga said.
Old Lyme’s share of the budget is $24.3 million, while Lyme’s is $5.9 million.
The budget is 1.52 percent higher than the current spending plan because it includes $3.7 million in debt repayment for the Lyme-Old Lyme High School renovation. But the cost of running the regional school district is expected to be $123,000 less than the current operating budget.
