Passengers Injured in East Haven Transit Bus Crash

Twenty-two people were injured - four or five seriously - when a truck rammed into the back of a stopped CT Transit bus in East Haven.

David Lee, general manager of the commuter bus service, said 29 passengers were on the bus when it was hit Monday morning around 7:13 a.m. near Interstate 95.

According to East Haven Police, the bus was stopped on Frontage Road in front of Chili's restaurant at a bus stop. A pedestrian was securing a bicycle to the front of the bus when the truck struck it from behind.

The passenger was knocked to the ground and ended up under the bus.

Fire Chief Doug Jackson told the New Haven Register that the bus was pushed 100 feet up the road.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Juan Rodriguez, 28, of Allentown, Penn. The operator of the bus was Alexander Diosa, 37, of Cheshire.

A total of 26 people were transported between Yale New Haven Hospital and the Hospital of St. Raphael. There were no life threatening injuries and several passengers have been released from the hospital.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the East Haven Police at 203-468-3820.
