UConn Avery Point to unveil accelerated teacher preparation program

Groton — The University of Connecticut at Avery Point will hold an open house Wednesday night to introduce an accelerated teacher preparation program.

The Neag School of Education, which has expanded to Avery Point, is seeking people with experience in science and technology to become STEM education teachers. The school’s teacher certification program for college graduates is a year-long course that includes a student teaching internship.

“This provides an opportunity for those looking to make a career change, those who want to get into teaching or those who come from a science or environmental background to make a change into teaching,” Shawn Kornegay, director of marketing and communications for Neag, said Tuesday.

Neag representatives will discuss scholarship options as well as an overview of the program during the open house, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Branford House.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
