Kelly Middle School plans end of year events

Norwich – Students at Kelly Middle School will close out the school year June 15 by giving their principal and two teachers a new look for the summer.

As part of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, Principal William Peckrul science teacher Gregg Landry and social studies teacher Tom St. George put up a tempting challenge to students.

Those who earned enough “Kelly Cougar Coupons” through good behavior, following the rules, showing good character and helping others could shave the heads of the principal and two teachers on the final day of school, June 15 at 11 a.m. in the school cafeteria in an event called “The Time has Come.”

Students had to earn 150 points to shave Peckrul’s head, 100 points for Landry and 50 points for St. George.

Also on the last day of school Kelly Middle School students will hold a bikathon fundraiser from the school through Mohegan Park starting at 1 p.m. to raise money for the “Read to Ride” program that offers bicycles to students in schools in Norwich and Montville for reaching reading goals.

In the bikathon, called “Ride to Read,” participating students must raise at least $10 and will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle electronic reader.

Other prizes will be awarded to the top three student fundraisers.
