Caroline's Miracle Foundation to hold third annual 5K, fun run

Old Lyme — Caroline's Miracle Foundation will hold its third annual 5K & Fun Run/Walk Saturday, during the Midsummer Festival.

Registration will run from 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at the Lymes' Youth Service Bureau, 59 Lyme St. in Old Lyme. The fee is $10 for the 1-mile fun run, $15 for the 5K walk and $25 for the 5K run.

Race start times are: 8:15 a.m. for the fun run, 8:30 a.m. for the walk and 8:45 a.m. for the run.

All proceeds will benefit the foundation, which was started by Caroline O'Brien, an 11-year-old from Old Lyme who died in July 2010 of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable brain tumor. Caroline started the foundation to help other families affected by the diagnosis.

The Youth Service Bureau will offer music, food, massages and more following the race. The first 200 to register will get free T-shirts. Participants are invited to come with "crazy hair" for a chance to win the Craziest Hair Prize.
