City to unveil Caulkins Park renovation plans

New London - The city will hold a neighborhood meeting 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at the senior center to discuss renovations to Calkins Park.

The consultant designer and the Public Works Department will present plans for the Riverview Avenue park, which include renovating a baseball field and three soccer fields, and installing an underground irrigation system. An established walking path will be built around the perimeter of the playing fields and bleachers will be built. Renovations also will be made to existing bathrooms and to a historic building adjacent to Riverview Avenue.

The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions.

The city authorized $750,000 in bonding last August for the renovations. Work may begin after Nov. 1 and should be completed during next year. The playing fields will be out of commission during the summer of 2013.
