Shoreline Preservation Task Force to meet Monday in Groton

Groton - A public hearing of the Shoreline Preservation Task Force will take place at 6 p.m. Monday in Room 308 of the Academic Center at the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus.

The bipartisan legislative task force is studying the effects of sea level rise and changes in the frequency and intensity of weather events on both human and ecological systems along the state’s coastline.

“Impacts from climate change can pose significant risks to low-lying infrastructure, public health, water resources, coastal systems, ecosystems and our food supply,” state Rep. Elissa Wright, D-Groton, said in a news release. “It’s important that we hear from shoreline residents as we work to reduce the vulnerability of our coastal communities to flooding, floodplain and shoreline erosion, and other conditions from severe storms and rising seas,”

The task force has been meeting since February and is conducting public hearings to listen to the concerns and recommendations of local residents, business owners and others.

The task force is expected to make recommendations for next year’s legislative session. For information, contact Paul Summers at the Legislative Office Building at: (800) 240-8522 or Paul.Summers@cga.ct.gov.
