Advocacy center to hold information session on 'deferred action' process

New London — Encuentros de Esperanza (Encounters of Hope), a social services and advocacy center, will hold the first of several information sessions Thursday on how to apply for deferred action status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

The session is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana, at 35 Redden Ave. The session is free and open to the public.

USCIS will begin accepting applications for deferred action status on Aug. 15. The status is available to undocumented immigrants ages 30 or under with no criminal records who were brought to the country illegally as children. The status temporarily protects them from deportation.

For more information, contact Encuentros at (860) 439-0034.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
