Power restored to most southeastern Connecticut customers

Heavy rains and Friday afternoon thunderstorms caused power outages throughout the region.

By about 9:30 p.m., most Connecticut Light & Power customers in southeastern Connecticut had their power restored. Montville was down to nine outages from a peak of more than 4,000 — about 50 percent of CL&P customers.

According to the company's outage map website, only two residences in Waterford were without power at 9:30 p.m., down from 1,284 - 13 percent - immediately following the storms.

CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross said the outages occurred around 5 p.m. and stemmed from damage to two lines that lead to the Montville substation.

There were 68 customers in Ledyard without power as of 9:30 p.m. Friday as well. Immediately after the storms, about 16,000 were without power throughout CL&P territory, Gross said.
