Yantic crash results in downed power lines and gas spill
Norwich – Yantic firefighters called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash this morning found a pick-up truck on its side and leaking gas with live power lines hanging overhead from a snapped utility pole.
Yantic Fire Chief Frank Blanchard said the driver managed to escape without Firefighters doused the area with a foam blanket to reduce the risk of gas igniting while crews from Norwich Public Utility crews shut down power to the dangling power lines. Only then could firefighters remove the man from the car.
The crash occurred at 8:20 a.m. in the area of 102 Case Street. Utility crews remained at the scene this afternoon working to repair the pole.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
