Ledyard adopts new set of zoning regulations

Ledyard – The Zoning Commission unanimously adopted a new set of zoning regulations following a public hearing Thursday evening.

Zoning Commission Chair Eric Treaster said the town has been in need of new regulations for about 20 years now. Ledyard adopted its first zoning regulations in 1963, with dozens of amendments made to them since. With years of new amendments made to the regulations and changes made in state statutes, the regulations became convoluted, Treaster said, and conflicts arose between town regulations and the state’s laws.

Treaster said the policies of the new set of regulations remain unchanged; rather, they eliminate redundancies and trim more than 60 pages from the formerly more than 200-page zoning regulations document.
