Norwich City Council approves 2 percent raise for police union members

Norwich – The City Council Monday approved a 2 percent raise over an 11-month period for members of the city police union in a wage opener for the final year of the union contract.

The raise covers 82 officers from the period of Aug. 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013, when the current contract with the police union expires.

City Human Resources Director Brigid Marks said the raises will cost about $120,000, and money is available in the city budget to cover the cost. The wage opener in the contract was part of labor concessions with the union two years ago, Marks said.
