With Halloween looming, it only seems appropriate that a hybrid hurricane has been dubbed as "Frankenstorm." But make no mistake, meteorologists warn that the ominous storm is on track up the East Coast bringing with it a natural horror show of high wind, heavy rains, extreme high tides, and even the possibility of snow beginning on Sunday.

Yes, Hurricane Sandy is on the way. It's blown across Haiti and Cuba and continues to head north. Weather forecasters suggest that it may arrive as early as Tuesday morning and linger past Halloween on Wednesday. A the same time, a wintry storm is en route from the west. Top it off frigid air streaming in from Canada and the full moon arriving on Oct. 29 bringing higher than normal tides.

If all of these weather conditions meet Tuesday morning in New York or New Jersey as current forecasts show, they could creat a big, wet mess that settles over the country's most heavily populated corridor and reaches as far west as Ohio. Already, forecasters are comparing it to 1991's "Perfect Storm."

"It's looking like a very serious storm that could be historic," said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the forecasting service Weather Underground. "Mother Nature is not saying, 'Trick or treat.' It's just going to give tricks."

The latest projections show that Sandy is expected to reach New Jersey and turn northwest, cycling the storm towards Ohio. If that happens, Connecticut will be on the back side of the storm and that means high speed winds.

Utility companies have already started lining up out-of-state work crews and canceling employees' days off to deal with expected power outages. Connecticut Light & Power has reportedly requested 2,000 linemen and 700 tree workers from the Midwest to help with restoration and cleanup work.
