EPA to present plan for disposing of dredge material in Long Island Sound

Groton – The Environmental Protection Agency will host a public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday about its plan to prepare a supplemental environmental impact statement to evaluate the potential designation of one or more sites in eastern Long Island Sound for disposal of dredge material.

The meeting will take place in Room 308 of the Academic Building at the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus.

The supplemental environmental impact statement is being developed with the input of other federal and state cooperating agencies and stakeholders from New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. It will update and build on the analyses that were conducted for an impact statement prepared in 2005 that supported the designation of central and western Long Island Sound disposal sites. This is one of several opportunities the EPA will provide.

At the public meeting at Avery Point, EPA will present its plan and hear from the public.
