Chances don't look good for a white Christmas
While some areas of the country could get up to a foot of snow this week, it will not be a white Christmas in southeastern Connecticut.
Brian Edwards, a meteorologist with AccuWeather.com, said Sunday he’s tracking two storms, the first is a weaker system that will affect the area late today and into Tuesday.
“It’s a light rain-snow mix,” he said. “I really don’t think there will be much in the way of accumulations, maybe a slushy coating of snow after sunset Monday night.”
“That could at least whiten the ground a little for Tuesday morning,” he added.
But, Edwards said, as temperatures reach near 40 degrees on Christmas Day in Connecticut, that slushy coating will quickly disappear.
The second storm, a major snowstorm that begins Christmas Day and spreads from the southern Plains to the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast, will not reach southeastern Connecticut until the mid-day or afternoon on Wednesday, Edwards said.
Edwards predicted either a mix of rain and snow or all rain, and temperatures again will be around 40.
The storm is projected to move up through the Appalachians, a track which doesn’t generally bring snow to the coast, he said.
