An overnight rainstorm combined with Thursday morning’s high tide brought flooding to the region and even prompted the emergency evacuation of a woman from her Stonington Borough home.

Borough firefighters helped the woman out of her 11 Maplewood Lane home and placed her into a row boat, where she was then transferred onto a brush truck that belongs to the Wequetequock Fire Department.

A borough fire official said water was coming into the house. No injuries were reported and it was the only rescue they performed. The incident was reported around 8:12 a.m.

Hyde and Orchard streets in the borough remain closed because of the flooding that resulted in the woman’s evacuation. In addition, Church Street in Mystic was closed this morning due to flooding and the high tide. 

The flood waters have since receded. For a short period of time, police had reported flooded roadways in Groton, Stonington, Waterford, East Lyme and New London.

The National Weather Service said there is another chance of rain showers, possibly mixing with snow after 9 p.m.
