When clerk demands to see gun, NL robber flees

New London — Police say a man tried to rob a Broad Street Dunkin' Donuts tonight by passing the store clerk a note implying he had a gun.

When the clerk demanded to see the gun, the masked, white male fled on foot, police said. No one was injured in the 6:25 p.m. incident and the robbery was unsuccessful.

A police dog tracked the suspect from the 175 Broad Street store to the area of Granite and Williams Streets before losing the scent. Police said several items of evidence were recovered along the way.

The man is described as thin, approximately 6-feet or 6-feet-two-inches tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt under a green waist length jacket, dark colored jeans and black footwear, police said. The threatening note was recovered, police said.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call the department's detective division at 860-447-1481.
