Norwich man charged with robbing bank

Norwich – Police arrested a city man at a local hotel today after he allegedly robbed the Dime Savings Bank on Broadway.

Russell Sheppard, 52, with a last known address 301 Central Ave., was charged with third-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny.

Norwich and state police responded around 3:30 p.m. to a hold-up alarm at the bank and learned a white man had robbed the bank “by threat of violence” and fled with cash. Following an extensive investigation and assistance from several witnesses, police identified Sheppard as the suspect and found him at the hotel. Police recovered about $1,400 in cash and the clothes Sheppard wore during the alleged robbery.

Sheppard was held on $125,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Thursday in Norwich Superior Court.
