Uncasville man arrested in drug sweep

An Uncasville man was among the 17 people arrested on federal narcotics-related charges Thursday in connection with an extensive FBI investigation into the distribution of heroin and cocaine in and around Hartford.

“Operation Solid Sweep,” involved the execution of multiple search warrants and seizure of narcotics, one firearm, approximately $200,000 in cash and three vehicles, authorities said. The investigation included the use of court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of narcotics and physical surveillance, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Jared Pennell, 29, of Norwich-New London Turnpike in Uncasville was among the suspects presented Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas P. Smith in Hartford.

The FBI said the operation disrupted a criminal enterprise that allegedly involved members of the Los Solidos gang and others who were responsible for an extensive narcotics trafficking operation in Hartford’s south end.
