    Froyo World to celebrate late Stonington author's birthday

    Mystic — A celebration of what would have been Stonington author Jim Henry’s 100th birthday will be held Friday, April 19 at Froyo World on Coogan Boulevard.

    The frozen yogurt shop will donate a portion of the sales that day to the National Literacy Foundation in honor of the late Stonington author. Henry’s book,  “In a Fisherman’s Language” will be offered at a reduced price and sales will be donated to the Literacy Foundation. The desk Henry used to write the book will be on display.

    At 7:15 p.m. there will be a candle-lighting celebration and a chance to win a copy of “In a Fisherman’s Language.”” Never Give Up!” pencils that were designed for part of a literacy game, called “A Fisherman’s Language Goes Port to Port,” will be given to those who attend.

    Henry, who did not learn to read and write until he was 91, gained wide acclaim in 2011 when he published a book of short stories about his life when he was 98. He died in January.
