New police station committee to meet April 25

Norwich – The newly formed police station committee will hold its first meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at City Hall.

The City Council formed the 13-member committee last month and asked members to spend the next six months studying potential sites for a new police station, costs and the scope of the project.

They also were asked to study the $33 million plan rejected by voters, 7,254 to 4,178 votes, in a referendum last November. That project called for renovating the former Sears department store building at 2-6 Cliff St. and expanding the building incorporating several vacant surrounding lots. An adjacent city parking lot would have been converted into a three-story parking garage with the first floor reserved for public parking.

An agenda for the committee's organizational meeting has not yet been posted.
