    Preston, England, residents visiting Preston Friday

    Preston – Residents here will get a chance to meet a traveling guest from the town's namesake, Preston St. Mary, England, Friday morning at Preston Veterans' Memorial School.

    Richard and Janet Martin from Preston St. Mary will visit students and residents at 8:45 a.m. at the school. Fred Herbert, a director of the Preston Historical Society will welcome the Martins and share a slide show of Preston St. Mary.

    Schoolchildren, under the direction of teacher, Sandra Bosco, will perform. There will also be various forms of recognition from both city and state.

    Residents are invited to attend.

    It is believed that Preston, is named for Preston St. Mary, Suffolk, England, as many of its early settlers immigrated from that village, Historical Society President Linda Christensen said.

    Representatives of Preston St. Mary took part in Preston's 300th anniversary, and a delegation of Preston residents went to Preston St. Mary to celebrate the Millenium.
