    Norwich youth service awards presented on World Youth Day

    Norwich – Several local youths were honored Friday at the annual National Youth Service Day that preceded the World Youth Day celebration outside City Hall.

    Honorees were:

    Patricia George, co-chairman of the Haitian Student Club at Norwich Free Academy, a member of the NFA Dance Team and organizer of the annual Haitian Flag Day in Norwich.

    Alexandra Pires, co-chairman of the Cape Verdean Student Club at NFA.

    Milza Jozile, co-chairman of the Haitian Student Club at NFA and a member of the NFA Dance Team.

    Yobany Chanelle Vargas Casillas, a volunteer with the Bully Busters group and participant in the Youth in Democracy Challenge.

    Paige LaFlamme, member of the Three Rivers Young Marines and a volunteer at the William W. Backus Hospital.

    Richard Joseph, active member of the Norwich NAACP Robertsine Duncan Youth Council, participant in the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics and organizer of the Empty Bowls project to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul Place soup kitchen.

    Morgan Deschamps, member of the Hogies Heroes community service club at Norwich Regional Technical High School, member of the Bully Busters group and a volunteer at Backus Hospital.

    Alexyss Fuller, member of Project Outreach community service club at NFA, student coordinator for three years.

    Amber Royster, member of the Norwich Youth Action Council, participating in numerous community service projects.

    Raagan Wicken, member of the Norwich Youth Action Council and the Norwich Youth and Family Services Advisory Board.

    Chris Chevalier, Meagan Dorsey and Kathryn Wall, members of the New London County 4-H Teen Ambassador Program, which does community service projects in the region.
