    Gout is topic of Backus program June 26

    Norwich – The William W. Backus Hospital Arthritis Center and Rheumatology Department will host a community education event from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 26 about gout, a painful condition that impacts millions of people.

    Dr. Sandeep Varma, medical director of the Arthritis Center, will present “Understanding Gout: My Toe Really Hurts” in the Backus Outpatient Care Center conference room at 111 Salem Turnpike.

    The event is free but registration is required by calling (860) 425-8710. Refreshments will be provided.

    Dr. Varma will educate participants about the signs and symptoms of gout, a painful arthritic condition that many times can be felt in the big toe, and how this condition can be treated.
