Hearing tonight on Norwich development strategy

Norwich - The Commission on the City Plan will hold a public hearing on the draft new Plan of Conservation and Development tonight at 7 in Council Chambers at City Hall.

The draft plan outlines development strategies for the city for the next 10 years. The plan recommends concentrating major development in areas already served by utilities, major road networks and public transportation - including downtown, the business park and historic mill villages of Greeneville, Taftville and the Route 97 section of Occum.

The plan contains few recommended zoning changes, but recommends the city expand the business park zone to include an area on Otrobando Avenue at the Wawecus Street intersection and an area on Clinton Avenue near the Public Works Department headquarters. The plan also recommends the city establish an enterprise zone in the business park to bring tax break incentives to the park. Public comment will follow the presentation.
