Mohegan Sun to announce retail expansion

Mohegan Sun will announce details of a planned expansion of its casino in Uncasville at a press conference Tuesday morning.

According to a media advisory issued by the casino, Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozsum, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, Mohegan Sun executives and developers’ representatives will discuss plans for a “retail destination” at the casino. Construction is to begin later this year.

Mohegan Sun’s southeastern Connecticut neighbor, Foxwoods Resort Casino, also plans to add a retail component to its property. It is expected to break ground next month on a 312,000-square-foot shopping center that would connect Foxwoods’ Grand Pequot Hotel to MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

The Foxwoods project, to be developed by Tanger Factory Outlet Centers of Greensboro, N.C., and Gordon Group Holdings of Greenwich, is to include some 80 stores.

No details of the Mohegan Sun expansion were made public Monday.
