Branford 1st Selectman's Race Moving Forward

Branford’s  2013 selectman’s race has taken another step forward.

The nominating committee of the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has endorsed current Second Selectman Andrew Campbell, an attorney as its choice for First Selectman Candidate, to be put to a full vote of the DTC at its July 17 caucus. At that caucus, Chris Sullivan, who also sought the DTC nominating committee’s selection last week, also intends to seek a majority DTC vote as candidate for First Selectman.  Sullivan is an environmental analyst for CT DEEP.

At its July caucus, The Republican Town Committee will vote to select its First Selectman’s candidate as well. Jamie Cosgrove, current Third Selectman, and Kurt Schwanfelder, currently serving on the Board of Finance, both want the role. No second selectmen candidates have been announced.

Campbell’s running mate, affirmed by the DTC nominating committee, is former Branford Superintendent of Schools Bruce Storm. Sullivan, who has stepped away from his role as Representative Town Meeting moderator due this run for office, has selected RTM member Yvette Larrieu as his running mate.

Additionally, as announced in March, Branford has an Independent candidate running for First Selectman in the 2013 race, local businesswoman Jacey Wyatt. Wyatt is running under her newly-formed party, the Independent Branford Voter’s Coalition. No running mate has been announced as yet.
