Groton — A naked man was arrested early Saturday after he tried to break into a house here.

Town Police charged Taylor B. Elkins, 28, of 16 Bushnell St., with second-degree burglary, public indecency, criminal attempt to commit first-degree sexual assault, second-degree threatening and interfering with a police officer in connection with the incident. He was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court Aug. 23.

Lt. John Varone said a man who lives in the house heard a noise at 4:30 a.m, went to investigate and confronted Elkins as he was trying to get inside the home. The sexual assault charge was based on what Elkins told police after he was apprehended.

“We definetely believe this was an isolated incident and alcohol played a role,” he said.
