Chatfield Hollow reopens after poisoning threat
Killingworth – The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection today reopened Chatfield Hollow State Park, including the swimming area.
The swimming area and park were closed Tuesday after DEEP received emails from an individual threatening to poison the waters there.
The emails, received by DEEP employees Tuesday afternoon, were allegedly sent by Wayde A. Isakson, 55, of Madison, DEEP said in a news release. DEEP EnCon Police, along with State Police, undertook the investigation that resulted in Isakson's arrest at the park.
Police charged Isakson with first-degree threatening, first-degree breach of peace and making terrorist threats. He is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Sept. 10.
DEEP’s Emergency Response Unit tested the waters at the park and found no evidence of any hazardous materials in the water, DEEP said. The incident remains under investigation.
