Man charged in downtown Pawcatuck assault

Stonington — A man was arrested early tonight after police say he assaulted another man who appears to have been breaking up a fight near the intersection of West Broad and Liberty streets in downtown Pawcatuck.

The victim was taken to Westerly Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Police quickly located a group of people involved in the 6:40 p.m. incident and made the arrest.

Police charged Sean M. McGuire, 21, of Ashaway, R.I., with third-degree assault, breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon.

The name of the man who was charged was not immediately available tonight. The incident is under investigation.
