All tenants to return to Wauregan today

Norwich – All tenants displaced by last Friday’s sprinkler pipe burst at the Wauregan apartment building will be able to return to the building Friday, as cleanup from the water damage is completed.

Michael Cunningham, property manager for WinnCompanies, which manages the building, said ARS Restoration Specialists of Rhode Island has been at the Wauregan throughout the week removing water-damaged walls, ceilings, carpeting and other materials and conducting moisture tests.

All tenants will be able to return either to their regular apartments or to vacant undamaged units at the Wauregan today, Cunningham said.

The sprinkler break damaged 17 apartments initially, as well as the historic Wauregan Ballroom on the second floor. The city Human Services Department initially paid for 13 tenants to be housed at the Comfort Inn & Suites temporarily as the damage was repaired and they were able to move back into their apartments during the week. The company will reimburse the city's costs.

Cunningham said damage to the ballroom floor is still being assessed. He said insurance officials will start assessing the total damage from the sprinkler break on Monday.
