    Volunteers clean up Conn. River watershed

    Volunteers are picking up trash and removing debris from rivers and shorelines throughout the Connecticut River watershed today and Saturday as part of the 17th annual Connecticut River Watershed Council's Source to Sea Cleanup.

    Locally, a group sponsored by the Connecticut River Museum in Essex cleaned up Nott Island in Lyme today. Also today, The Nature Conservancy organized a group of volunteers to remove trash from Ragged Rock Creek in Old Saybrook.

    From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, a group of volunteers from a University of Hartford watershed sociology class will meet at the Great Island state boat launch in Old Lyme for a cleanup of Great Island and the surrounding area.
