Bridgeport man killed in East Lyme crash

East Lyme — A Bridgeport man was killed this morning when he was ejected from his SUV after it went airborne and hit a highway sign and a large tree on Interstate 95 just south of Exit 74.

Danny Davis, 49, was found 25 feet away from the Chevy Trailblazer in a wooded area after the 7:07 a.m. crash. He was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to state police, Davis was driving north on the highway about a half-mile south of Exit 74 when he drove off the road, hitting a reflector post. He then came back onto the road, then left it again, this time striking a concrete drainage culvert. The SUV went airborne striking the Exit 74 sign knocking it from its concrete stand and then hitting a large tree. The SUV came to rest about 50 feet off the road.
